Susie

lives, whether that is the ordinary moments of
life near home or the extraordinary moments of

other cultures. For almost ten years, she worked
primarily for the National Geographic Society,
both in the magazine and book divisions. Many
of those projects are here on this website. Other
editorial clients have included Life Magazine,
People Magazine, US News & World Report,
and Newsweek. Before going freelance,
Susie worked for the Pittsburgh Press
and the Morning News Tribune. She also

In
2001 Susie decided to travel less in order to
be available for a different kind of project:
family. Now

she
and her husband, Adam Rust, have a delightful
two-year-old little boy, John, who is ready to
explore absolutely everything. (Take a look at
the first picture in the family gallery.) They
also have a newborn daughter named Rosie. (Photos
still to come.) In order to fascilitate being
home more nights out of the year, they started
a documentary wedding photography business. She
works in that business and continues to do editorial
and corporate freelance.

Another
passion for Susie is teaching. She taught at Western
Kentucky University as a professional in residence
for a year, and has taught at Duke University's
Center for Documentary Studies. She has also been
on the faculty of the Missouri Photo Workshop
and WKU's Mountain Workshops. She continually
looks for new opportunities in teaching.
